Youth Empowerment Summit Day of Play
On October 12, 2023, the Lassen County Office of Education (LCOE) proudly hosted the Youth Empowerment Summit Day of Play, a free community event that welcomed over 80 residents and their families. Designed for participants from Transitional Kindergarten through high school, the event featured a wide array of engaging activities that encouraged family bonding and fun.
One of the standout attractions was an interactive escape room created by Lassen County Maternal Child Adolescent Health (MCAH), which had families collaborating to solve puzzles. Attendees also enjoyed cooking demonstrations from Calfresh, featuring delicious cinnamon apples and air fryer cornflake chicken. James Hall, Director of Student, Family, and Community Engagement for LCOE, remarked, “All of the families really enjoyed the cooking demonstration, and the food was delicious!”
The Lassen County Wraparound hosted a lively Family Olympics, allowing family members of all ages to compete in friendly challenges. Hall also shared, “The Family Olympics was a fantastic way for families to bond and enjoy some friendly competition.”
Participants could also take part in baseball clinics led by Mitch Lively of Lively Performance, as well as creative activities such as kite crafting and canvas painting. The keynote speaker, Kirk Waller, captivated the audience with engaging stories and musical performances, emphasizing the shared experiences that connect us all: “We all have a story to tell.”
