Fifth Grade Day in the Desert Connects Students to Local History and Public Lands
On May 5 and 6, Lassen County fifth grade students had the opportunity to participate in another successful Fifth Grade Day in the Desert, an engaging outdoor educational experience focused on the unique history, environment, and resources of our region.
Hosted in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), students visited the petroglyphs and explored a variety of interactive learning stations designed to deepen their understanding of the land and its significance. Throughout the day, students learned about local wildlife, native plants and invasive weeds, off-highway vehicle recreation, and the Wild Horse and Burro Program. They also explored the cultural and historical importance of the area and gained insight into the history of the land and those who have called it home.
The hands-on experiences encouraged curiosity, environmental awareness, and appreciation for the natural resources found throughout Lassen County and the surrounding region. Events like these help students build meaningful connections between classroom learning and the world around them.
Lassen County Office of Education extends a huge thank you to our partners at the Bureau of Land Management for their continued support, expertise, and dedication to providing these valuable educational opportunities for students. Their commitment helped make this experience both memorable and impactful for fifth graders across the county.
